United States Navy veteran, currently serving New York State Air National Guardsman, and Syracuse University undergraduate student veteran Nadia Morris-Mitchell hails from Syracuse, New York. She enlisted in the United States Navy in 2004 as a heavy equipment operator, Seabee. Also in 2004, Nadia married her high school sweetheart, Cody Stasko.
Nadia’s first assignment was with the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133 in Gulfport, Mississippi where she earned her Seabee Warfare Combat Pin. Her next assignment was with Naval Cargo Handling Battalion 21 in Port Hueneme, California, and she deployed in support of combat operations in Afghanistan in 2009-2010.
After 12 years of Navy service, Nadia returned to Syracuse, New York and joined the Navy Reserves, and served at the Operational Support Center (NOSC) in Mattydale, New York. In 2017, Nadia transitioned to the New York Air National Guard’s 174th Attack Wing at Hancock Field where she is a Technical Sergeant serving as a Public Health Technician. In 2020, she supported the COVID-19 pandemic by supporting “Operation Inoculation” administering COVID vaccines in New York State.
Today, Nadia is a student veteran studying at Syracuse University’s College of Professional Studies and is on course to earn her Bachelor of Professional Studies degree in Creative Leadership in 2023.
