Hometown Hero – Joseph Creager

United States Army Staff Sergeant Joseph Creager was born in Chicago, and hails from Land in Lakes, Illinois. He enlisted in the Army in 2013 as an Infantryman and served as a Scout/Sniper for 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry (Airborne) at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, Alaska from 2013-2017.  Staff Sergeant Creager later served as a Stryker Commander and Fire Team Leader at 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry, Fort Carson, Colorado.

In 2018, Staff Sergeant Creager changed jobs and become a 27 Delta, Army Paralegal Specialist. For three years, he served as a Paralegal Noncommissioned Officer and Senior Paralegal Noncommissioned Officer for 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) from 2019-2022 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Staff Sergeant Creager currently serves in the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, NY.  He first served as the Senior Paralegal Noncommissioned Officer for the 10th Mountain Division Artillery Brigade and is currently serving as the 10th Mountain Division’s Litigation Noncommissioned Officer.

His awards include the Expert Infantrymen’s Badge, Army Parachutists Badge, Australian Parachutist Badge, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (5 OLC), three Good Conduct Medals, the Global War on Terrorism Ribbon, the National Defense Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

Staff Sergeant Creager is married to his wife, Kensie, and they have two sons, Carter and Luke. Today, Staff Sergeant Creager is a Juris Doctorate Interactive (JDi) student at Syracuse University’s College of Law.
