Artemio “Art” Bayna is currently a senior at the Syracuse University College of Professional Studies and is working toward his degree in professional studies with a major in creative leadership. Now an aspiring author, Bayna first enlisted in the US Army in 1997. Four years later, the events on 9/11 changed the course of his life forever.

ROTC Cadets Take Next Step in Serving Their Country

In May, 21 U.S. Army and eight U.S. Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) cadets officially became the next generation of military leaders at the University’s annual commissioning ceremony held at the National Veterans Resource Center’s K.G. Tan Auditorium.

Given those experiences, Syracuse University has created a brand new pipeline program called Operation Veteran Promise. It’s specifically for high school seniors heading into the military right after school. When they get into this program, they will have a guaranteed spot at SU when they come home from that first deployment.

Active Duty Student Joshua Reid Says Discipline Was Key While Balancing Duties and Completing His Degree

For Joshua Reid, an active duty soldier now stationed in Japan, his training gave him the tools he needed to “continue the climb” while finishing his degree through University College at Syracuse University. “As a 10th Mountain Division soldier, the climb to glory for me is being a role model for my nieces and nephews, and also to my friends and in my community,” he says. Reid says that the time management and discipline he’s learned serving in the military helped him accomplish his goal. “I accept my duties as a soldier and a scholar with a deep reverence.”
