Dan Rubio: A Student Veteran’s Life Dedicated to Serving Others

Dan Rubio is one of the many student veterans here at the University using his Post-9/11 G.I. Bill benefits to pursue his academic goals. In his case, this means a dual major in biology and environment, sustainability and policy in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.

Military-Connected Student of the Month: Chris Giglio

For many, joining the military is as much a matter of family tradition as it is a commitment to serve. For Syracuse graduate student and third-generation Naval officer Chris Giglio, it was also a matter of building on a personal history.

Military-Connected Student of the Month: Kelvin Nyamalor

It’s not every day a student arrives on campus with their whole life tucked away into a single military duffle bag, but for Kelvin Nyamalor, a student veteran at Syracuse University, that was exactly how he arrived.

Military-Connected Student of the Month: Oliver Posewitz ’20

Every student at Syracuse University has their own unique story, whether they enroll straight out of high school or as a non-traditional student returning to begin a second career. Some students overcome serious challenges; some attend as part of a Syracuse family legacy.  For Oliver Posewitz ’20, a senior in the School of Information Studies, it was a bit of both.

Danielle Sheppard didn’t always envision a military career for herself. While finishing high school in Ithaca, New York, she wasn’t sold on her mother’s aspirations for her to serve in the armed forces. When she was a junior, however, Sheppard, originally from Brooklyn, was shaken by the 9/11 attacks.

Military-Connected Student of the Month: Chloe Milliken

Chloe Milliken knew she wanted to be on the front lines in the U.S. Army. It was 2013 and she was given two options like all women who wanted to serve in combat: become an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician (EOD) or join the military police (MP). To her, the choice to be an EOD technician was clear.
