Syracuse Veterans Honored at WCNY’s Inaugural Mission Celebration

Three of Central New York’s most prominent champions for veterans, including Syracuse University Chancellor J. Michael Haynie,  were honored May 28 at Madison County Distillery in Cazenovia, as WCNY launched its first “Mission: Honor Our Heroes”—an event raising funds to keep local veterans’ stories on the air.

The Hall of Honor Walk video series features notable people from the military-connected community at Syracuse Univeristy. In addition to learning about the individuals who make Syracuse University the “Best Place for Veterans,” viewers can learn a little bit about the university’s historic commitment to support service members, veterans, and military families.

Rooted in Service: From Army Lawyer to Student Advocate

After years of legal service in the U.S. Army, Jaime Jacobson G’25 is continuing her commitment to public service through academia. Jacobson is currently a pursuing a master’s degree in higher education in the School of Education and draws a strong connection between her military experience and her future supporting college students.

Hometown Hero – Joseph Creager

United States Army Staff Sergeant Joseph Creager was born in Chicago, and hails from Land in Lakes, Illinois. He enlisted in the Army in 2013 as an Infantryman and served as a Scout/Sniper for 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry (Airborne) at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson, Alaska from 2013-2017.  Staff Sergeant Creager later served as a Stryker Commander and Fire Team Leader at 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry, Fort Carson, Colorado.

Hometown Hero: Rolondo “Jun” Mari

United States Army Sergeant First Class Rolando “Jun” Mari was born in the Philippines and calls Bel Air, Maryland home. Sergeant First Class Mari entered the U.S. Army in 2011, completing Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Jackson, SC, and became a 36 Bravo, Financial Management Technician.
