Lieutenant Colonel Jared C. Larpenteur is a native of Plaquemine, Louisiana, and serves as the Professor of Military Science for Syracuse University Army ROTC. He commissioned as an Infantry officer through Army ROTC at Louisiana State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History. During 19 years of active-duty service, he has served with units including the 1st Cavalry Division, 82nd Airborne Division and 10th Mountain Division, with operational deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq and Syria. His assignments and training have also taken him to locations throughout the United States and overseas, including Japan, Australia, Poland and Germany.
Prior to arriving at Syracuse, Larpenteur commanded 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York. He holds a Master of Science in Adult Learning and Leadership from Kansas State University and a Master of Military Operational Art and Science from the U.S. Army School of Advanced Military Studies at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. Larpenteur and his wife, Clare, are high school sweethearts and have been married for more than 16 years. They have two children, Ruthie and Charlie.
