U.S. Army First Sergeant (Retired) Denise L. Moore is the daughter of the late Marvin Ellis, and Vicky Dixon Pasley of Jesup, Georgia. She entered the United States Army in October 1992 and attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC. Denise attended Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana where she was awarded the Military Occupational Specialty, 73D, Accounting Specialist. On July 31, 2013, Denise retired after 20 years of active-duty Army service from Joint Base Lewis-McChord as a Senior Financial Advisor in the 593rd Sustainment Brigade.
Throughout her 20 years of service, Denise’s duty assignments include the 9th Finance Battalion, Fort Lewis, Washington where she served as a Commercial Accounts Specialist. She moved to Korea and served in Charlie Detachment, 176th Finance Battalion, Taegu, Korea as the In & Out-processing Travel and Separations Specialist. Denise relocated to Fort Benning, Georgia, and served in Alpha Company, United States Army Infantry Center (USAIC) Fort Benning as the In & Out-processing and Separations Specialist. Denise later moved to Fort Gordon, Georgia, and served in the Defense Military Pay Office (DMPO) as a Military Pay and Travel Clerk. Her next assignment was in the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) at San Antonio, Texas serving as an Accounting Technician, and later she served as a Travel NCO in the Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
1SG (Ret) Moore moved to Alexandria, Virginia to serve in the Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC) as Resource Management NCOIC. She was then selected and completed U.S. Army Drill Sergeant School and served in Delta Company, 3rd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. There she served as a Drill Sergeant and Senior Drill Sergeant. After completing a successful tour as a Drill Sergeant, Denise served with the United States Army Financial Management School also at Fort Jackson as an Operations NCOIC. She moved to Fort McPherson, Georgia serving in the United States Army Central Command as the Contingency Operations NCOIC. 1SG (Retired) Moore deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom from 2009-2010 as the G8 Forward (FWD) NCOIC and another deployment supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2011 as the 9th Financial Management Support Unit First Sergeant.
Denise’s military education includes the Warrior Leader’s Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, US Army Drill Sergeant School, Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution Course, Resource Management Budget Course, Deployed Operations Resource Manager’s Course, Enhanced Defense Financial Management Training Course and Army Comptroller Course. Denise holds an Associates of Arts degree from the University of Maryland University College, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Troy University, and a Master of Business Administration from Syracuse University.
Her awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal, the Joint Service Achievement Medal (2 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), the Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), the National Defense Service Medal (1 Bronze Star), the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (#3), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Army Superior Unit Award and the Meritorious Unit Commendation, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star. She is also authorized to wear the Drill Sergeant Identification Badge and is a recipient of the Finance Corps Regimental Nathan Towson Medallion.
Denise’s proudest military moment was serving as a drill sergeant teaching and training over 1,200 men and women to transition from civilians to Soldiers over the course of nine weeks.
1SG (Retired) Denise Moore lives in Atlanta, Georgia where she is actively involved in supporting the Syracuse University Alumni Club of Atlanta, volunteers extensively in the Atlanta area, and is the proud mother of three amazing children: daughters Dominique and Brooklyn and son, Morgan.
