United States Army Second Lieutenant Katherine “Kat” Whitson was born in Augusta, Georgia and was raised in Grovetown, Georgia. Kat enrolled at the Georgia Military College in 2022, where she earned two associate degrees while participating in numerous extracurricular activities. Her dedication to academic excellence and service culminated in being named a Distinguished Graduate, graduating summa cum laude at the top of her class. A member of the Army’s Early Commissioning Program (ECP), Kat was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 2024.

In August 2024, 2LT Whitson enrolled at Syracuse University to begin the completion of her bachelor’s degree in sociology. While balancing a rigorous academic course load, Kat has maintained a strong academic performance and earned a place on the Dean’s list. In February 2025, 2LT Whitson married her husband Braden, a fellow Army 2LT whom she met while attending Georgia Military College.
2LT Whitson currently serves in Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team in the Communications section. In this role she supports critical communication operations across the Brigade and ensures systems remain operational and contribute to mission success.
The proudest moment of her military career was commissioning as an officer, a milestone that represents both personal growth and commitment to leading and serving others. Across her academic, professional, and military experiences, 2LT Whitson continues to demonstrate dedication, adaptability, and a strong sense of responsibility toward both community and our nation.
