Hometown Hero: Jennifer Gotie

U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Jennifer Gotie was born in Cortland and raised in Truxton, New York. Jennifer was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 2001 and received her Bachelor’s degree in International Studies and Political Science from SUNY, Brockport. She started her career as a Military Intelligence Officer at Fort Bragg, NC from 2002-2007, where she worked as a Joint Targeting Officer in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.

One of Gotie’s proudest military moments was when she assessed as a member of the U.S. Army Special Operations Civil Affairs and was regionally aligned to the Indo-Pacific Command. There, she had the opportunity to lead a four person Civil Affairs Team in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Philippines. For their work, she and her team were awarded the Philippines Civic Action Medal.

Gotie served in a variety of other key staff positions and just recently returned from a deployment to Afghanistan supporting Operation Resolute Support as the U.S. Forces-Afghanistan Director of Civil Military Coordination.

Today, Lt. Col. Gotie serves as the Professor of Military Science for Syracuse University’s Army ROTC program.
