The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA) at Syracuse University is proud to announce that U.S. Army Colonel Pia W. Rogers has accepted a position on the OVMA Advisory Board. An esteemed alumna and a distinguished military leader, Colonel Rogers brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her new role, further strengthening the university’s commitment to supporting veterans and military-connected students.
Col. Rogers has served as an active-duty U.S. Army officer for 22 years. Currently, she holds the position of Chief, Legislation, Investigations, and Nominations Division in the Office of the Chief Legislative Liaison at the Pentagon. Her extensive military career includes a variety of pivotal roles, ranging from Client Services Attorney at Fort Meade, Maryland, to Staff Judge Advocate for the 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado. Colonel Rogers has been recognized with numerous military awards, including the Bronze Star Medal, Legion of Merit, and Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters.
“I am in awe of the vital role and commitment that Syracuse University provides to our veteran heroes through the OVMA, and there is no greater honor than to continue to advance these great initiatives as a member of the Advisory Board,” says Rogers.
Colonel Rogers’ journey began at Syracuse University where she was commissioned in 1998 through the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, balancing her academic pursuits with active participation in athletics as a member of the cheerleading team and participation in service through Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Following her undergraduate studies, she was granted an educational delay to attend law school, returning to Syracuse to complete a joint-degree program where she earned both a Juris Doctor (JD) from the College of Law and a Master of Public Administration degree (MPA) from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in 2001.
“Colonel Pia Rogers is a well-respected, principled leader in our Army and alumna of Syracuse University who will bring the right strategic leadership, vision, and advice to our advisory board,” says retired U.S. Army Colonel Ron Novack, OVMA Executive Director. “We are so excited and honored to welcome Pia to our board as we continue to strive to be the best place for veterans, service members, and military spouse and children.”
As a member of the OVMA advisory board, Colonel Rogers will leverage her extensive military and academic background to enhance the support and resources available to Syracuse University’s veteran and military-affiliated community. Her leadership and experience will be invaluable in guiding the university’s efforts to foster a welcoming and supportive environment for those who have served.
The OVMA warmly welcomes Colonel Pia W. Rogers back to her alma mater and looks forward to the significant contributions she will undoubtedly make in her new advisory role.
