Student veterans graduating next month can now purchase sashes recognizing their military service by visiting this website. The sashes cost $20 for 2020 and 2021 graduates and $40 for pre-2020 graduates. The price is plus shipping or sashes may be picked up at the Office of Veteran Success (Nation Veteran’s Resource Center, Suite 012) starting in May.

ROTC Cadets Share Stories About Being Military Children
Syracuse University Army Cadet Siobhan Grabski ’23 and Air Force Cadet Mazin Moya ’24 share their military child stories with OVMA’s Vanessa Marquette G’19 – who is also a military child. All three come from extensive military families. There are different challenges both active-duty and Reserve/National Guard military children may face – for some kids it’s frequent moves and changing schools, for others it may be living with families and friends when their parent(s) are gone for trainings or deployment – to name a few. Whatever the hardships may be, military children have proven to be more resilient than ever and are incredibly proud to have military service in their lives. Watch this video to learn more.
Distinguished Performance of Army and Air Force ROTC Cadets Recognized at Annual Chancellor’s Review
At the annual Chancellor Pass in Review Ceremony, ROTC cadets who have distinguished themselves through superior performance in academics, ROTC, and extracurricular activities were recognized with awards sponsored by civilian and military organizations. Syracuse University’s ROTC is the longest consecutively running program of its kind in the United States.

Darasha Singleton is a military-connected student. She has three veteran parents – her mother, father and stepfather. Now a graduate student studying broadcast journalism at the nation’s leading communications school, the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, she’s proud Syracuse University makes veterans and their families a priority.
LeChase Project, National Veterans Resource Center, Wins Build America Merit Award
The National Veterans Resource Center (NVRC) at the Daniel and Gayle D’Aniello Building has won a 2021 Construction Risk Partners Build America Merit Award. The Associated Builders and Contractors (AGC) of America holds the annual competition to recognize members for the nation’s most impressive projects. NVRC, which is located at Syracuse University, won in the category for Building New, $10 million to $75 million.
Nominations Now Open for the 2021 Student Veteran of the Year Award
Syracuse University’s Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA) takes pride in student-veteran involvement on campus, in the community, and at various events. The value student veterans bring to campus through their many contributions are part of what makes Syracuse University ‘the best place for veterans™.’ The OVMA recognizes a single student veteran each year for their significant contributions to the veteran community both on and off campus. This year, the OVMA “Student Veteran of the Year Award” will be presented to the most deserving candidate during a Student Veteran Awards Announcement on April 30th in the NVRC.
Citrus TV Interviews Assistant Director of Admissions on Operation Veteran Promise
As part of its enduring commitment to veterans and their families and to being the “best place for veterans”, Syracuse University is launching a new program called Operation Veteran Promise. The Office of Admission will grant local students graduating this year a guaranteed pathway to enroll at Syracuse University after receiving an honorable discharge from the military.
IVMF’s Maureen Casey to Host Panel Discussion Featuring Women Leaders From U.S. Military
Syracuse University’s Women in Leadership Initiative (WiL) is offering a virtual fireside chat, “Lessons In Leadership–Insights from a Collective,” on March 23 from 4 to 5 p.m. ET. The discussion will be hosted by Maureen Casey, chief operating officer for the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF). The panel will feature women with more than 90 years combined military experience.
