Rebel With a Cause: Marion Dorfer

Mario Dorfer in uniform.When Associate Professor Marion Dorfer joined the U.S. Army, she did so despite the fact that her mother, father and brother had all served in the U.S. Air Force. “I think I joined the Army instead of the Air Force because I was more of a rebel. I wanted something different,” says Dorfer, who has taught surface pattern design, computer-aided pattern design and computer design classes in the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ School of Design since 1992.

College of Law to Host Virtual Veterans Day Commemoration

Today, Nov. 10, the Syracuse University College of Law and members of the greater Syracuse legal community will gather to honor those who have served in and out of uniform during the College of Law’s third annual Veterans Day Celebration. Traditionally held in Dineen Hall in the Melanie Gray Ceremonial Courtroom, this year’s ceremony—beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET—will take place virtually.

Hometown Hero: Charlie Poag

United States Marine Corps veteran and Syracuse University senior Charlie Poag enlisted in the Marine Corps in the summer of 2001 and completed boot camp two weeks prior to the tragic events of 9/11.

Detachment 535: Virtual Leadership Panel

On November 6, 2020, Syracuse University’s Detachment 535 Air Force ROTC program will be hosting their first-ever virtual Leadership Panel. Speakers will reflect on different leadership styles and personal experiences in the real world. These speakers have volunteered their times to give u s tips on what it is like to be a successful leader so we may carry them with us into our Air Force careers.

United States Army Captain (Promotable) Jay Knight hails from Huntsville, Alabama. He completed his bachelor’s degree in 2000 at the University of Alabama – Birmingham and enlisted into the United States Army in 2005 as an 11 Bravo – Infantryman.
