U.S. Army Colonel Pia Rogers ’98, G’01, L’01 Joins OVMA Advisory Board

An esteemed alumna and a distinguished military leader, Colonel Rogers brings a wealth of experience and dedication to her new role, further strengthening the university’s commitment to supporting veterans and military-connected students.

OVMA Celebrates Graduating Veteran & Military-Connected Students

At the end of the spring semester each year, the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA) at Syracuse University welcomes family members, friends, and guests to the National Veterans Resource Center (NVRC) to celebrate the academic achievement of those veteran and military-connected students who are graduating from any of the university’s 13 schools or colleges.

University to Launch Innovative Mental Health Program for Student Veterans

In recognition of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, the University’s Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA) is pleased to announce the launch of the OVMA Resiliency Program (ORP) in partnership with Falk College and Hendricks Chapel. The ORP is an innovative wellness program tailored to meet the unique needs of veterans pursuing higher education and aims to enhance the overall well-being of veteran and military-connected students throughout their academic journey.

Meet Army ROTC Cadet Zahra Johnson

Zahra Johnson G’25 came to the United States from Kabul, Afghanistan, in pursuit of higher education. Having completed her undergraduate degree in forensic science and serving in the U.S. Army, Johnson came to Syracuse University on the Green to Gold program for her graduate degree, and to become a commissioned officer in the military.

Student Veteran Priscilla Cruz on Triumph Through Innovation

Priscilla Cruz ’24 currently serves in the Army Reserve as a logistics officer and is preparing to graduate with a degree in information management and technology from Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies (iSchool) and start the next phase of her career.

Student Veteran Organization Hosts Gatsby-Themed Gala for Annual Awards Banquet

Syracuse University’s military-connected community came together for an evening of celebration during the annual Student Veterans Organization (SVO) Ball & Awards Banquet. The formal event, held each year during the Spring semester, acknowledges the accomplishments within the veteran community at Syracuse University and serves as an evening of camaraderie before the academic calendar is overtaken by final exams.

From Campus to Cosmos: ROTC Cadet Benjamin Johnson’s Journey to Space Force

Johnson is parlaying his military mettle into an astronomical job opportunity. In May, he becomes Syracuse’s first student to join the United States Space Force after graduation. The Virginia native will spend the next four years designing computer architecture as well as integrating hardware and software for the nation’s space defense system.

Syracuse University’s Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA) is excited to welcome three new members to its advisory board. The three new additions will join the other eight members to provide advice and counsel to the university’s leadership related to programs, initiatives, and opportunities to advance the educational aspirations of military-connected students enrolled with the university.
