The OVMA is now accepting nominations for the “2019 OVMA Student Veteran of the Year Award.” Any student veteran – undergraduate, graduate, or law – who attends Syracuse University full time (online or on-campus), is eligible for this award.

OVMA Staff Travel to Las Vegas for National Association of Student Personnel Administrators
Staff members from Syracuse University’s Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA) and Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) recently traveled to Las Vegas to share expertise around serving military-connected students during the annual National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) symposium.
Veteran and Military-Connected Population Continues to Grow at Syracuse University
This makes more than 1,000 other veteran and military-connected students at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Syracuse University’s veteran and military-connected enrollment on campus has grown 60% since Chancellor Kent Syverud took his post in 2014.
Vice Chancellor Michael Haynie Named University Professor
J. Michael Haynie, vice chancellor for strategic initiatives and innovation and the Barnes Professor of Entrepreneurship, has been named a University Professor by Vice Chancellor and Provost Michele Wheatly. The distinction—a four-year, renewable appointment—is granted to faculty who excel in their fields and have made extraordinary scholarly contributions nationally and internationally. The Board of Trustees Executive Committee approved this appointment at its recent meeting.
SU Sends Two Veterans to the Camping World Bowl
In addition to the donated tickets, Syracuse Athletics, the OVMA and IVMF also hosted a special “Cuse for Troops” contest encouraging veterans to share their Orange pride on Twitter for a chance to win free tickets and travel to the Camping World Bowl. Brady Hallahan, a Syracuse University student veteran and U.S. Navy veteran, and Nick Prietti, a Syracuse-area veteran were selected as the contest winners.

The IVMF Team Checks out the Latest Progress on the NVRC
Both the IVMF and Office of Veterans and Military Affairs (OVMA) teams visited the NVRC worksite recently to check out the progress of what will be their future home in 2020 – and will be the national convening space for academic, government and community collaboration in support of those who served.
