Ty Van Tran (U.S. Navy)

Ty Tran serves as the Online Student Ambassador for Syracuse University’s Student Veterans Organization while pursuing a dual focus in Business Management and Project Management at the College of Professional Studies, with an expected graduation in Spring 2027. An active-duty Sailor in the U.S. Navy with nine years of service, Ty works as a Yeoman specializing in operations and personnel management, balancing the demands of military leadership with academic excellence. His military decorations include one Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (NCM), four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals (NAM), and one Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (MOVSM), alongside being named a Seinfeld Scholar, earning NAVAIR Sailor of the Year 2025, and consistently making the Dean’s List.

For Ty, SVO is more than an organization—it is a platform to give back to the military-connected community in creative and intentional ways. He is driven by the opportunity to help shape what the online veteran experience looks like at Syracuse, building spaces where others feel seen, supported, and empowered, just as he has been along his journey. Outside of his professional and academic commitments, Ty is a violinist, enjoys gaming, and prioritizes fitness in the gym. Having traveled to 16 countries across Europe, he brings a global perspective to his leadership and community-building efforts. After graduation, he plans to break into the beauty industry while continuing advocacy for student veterans and pursuing a master’s degree focused on cosmetics and fragrance.
