Follow these simple steps to join the ‘Cuse Vets Community on Microsoft Viva Engage, whether on your computer or phone:

ON YOUR COMPUTE

    • Log in to your Syracuse University Microsoft 365 account.

    • Open Microsoft Teams.

    • In the left-hand menu, click on the “Viva Engage” app (formerly Yammer).

    • If you don’t see it, search for Viva Engage in the Teams app store.

    • In the search bar, type ‘Cuse Vets Community to find the group.

    • Click Join the Group to become a member.

    • Set up notifications to stay updated on discussions, events, and opportunities.

ON YOUR PHONE

    • Download the Microsoft Viva Engage app from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android).

    • Open the app and log in with your.

    • Syracuse University Microsoft 365 account.

    • In the search bar, type ‘Cuse Vets Community to find the group.

    • Tap Join the Group to start connecting.

    • Turn on notifications to receive updates on the go.

OVMA Connect – Powered by FirstHand

What is FirstHand?

FirstHand is a powerful online mentoring platform designed to connect Syracuse University students (mentees) with experienced professionals (mentors). Through this platform, mentees can receive guidance on career planning, networking, and skill development, while mentors share their expertise, provide valuable advice, and create a meaningful impact on students’ career journeys.

For veterans, currently-serving students, and alumni, FirstHand includes OVMA Connect—a dedicated space within the platform that helps build tailored connections among the military-connected community. Whether you’re looking to learn or lead, FirstHand fosters professional growth and builds lasting relationships.

Directions for Mentees and Mentors to Log in to FirstHand

  1. Visit the FirstHand Website
  2. Click “Access FirstHand”
    • Locate and select the “Access FirstHand” button to start the login process.
  3. Create an Account or Log In
    • New Users: Choose “Create an Account” and register using your Syracuse University email.
    • Returning Users: Log in with your Syracuse University email and password.
  4. Complete Your Profile
    • Fill out your profile with your academic background, interests, and career goals. This helps mentors find you and understand how they can best support your growth.
  5. Start Connecting with Mentors
    • Use the platform to browse mentor profiles, schedule meetings, and access career-related resources to guide your journey.

    • Provide details about your professional background, areas of expertise, and how you’d like to support mentees. A complete profile helps mentees identify you as the right mentor for their needs.
  5. Engage with Mentees
    • Browse mentee profiles, offer advice, and schedule meetings to support students in their career development.
