What is the Veteran Legacy Fund?
Today’s veterans and military-connected students come to Syracuse University for the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of those generations of Orange veterans who have called SU home. The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs at Syracuse University has established the Veteran Legacy Fund (VLF) to support all programs that benefit our veteran and military-connected students on campus.
Your gift helps students
Every annual fund gift to the Veteran Legacy Fund helps Syracuse University continue to be the best place for veterans and military connected students. A place where these students can thrive, regardless of their financial circumstances. Annual fund gifts fill the gap and allow students to pursue their dreams and make the most of their Syracuse experience.
Your gift is flexible
Annual fund gifts allow the OVMA Executive Director to provide financial support when students need it most. Last year, annual funds helped with expenses like unanticipated tuition support and emergency funding for students. Annual funds also help OVMA support programs, professional development, and to create a stronger military connected community.
“Syracuse University truly is the best place for veterans—I know this from experience, having earned two degrees here,” says Buys. “There are so many resources for military-connected students and veterans. I can’t say enough good things about the opportunities I’ve been given here.”

Your gift makes an impact
No matter how much you give, every dollar works hard to provide resources to Syracuse University’s military connected community. The following opportunities represent only a selection of the needs of our veteran and military-connected students.
Financial Assistance
Even in the face of VA educational benefits and ROTC tuition assistance, affordability remains a significant barrier for veterans and military-connected students to attend or complete their degree at Syracuse University.
Career Services, Internships and Professional Development
The Veteran Career Services staff is exclusively dedicated to supporting all career development and other employment-related initiatives for veteran and military-connected students on or off campus at Syracuse University. Career services and internships prepare military-connected students beyond graduation. Professional development empowers students to enhance their leadership, management, team building and communication skills to unleash their potential as future leaders.
Programs and Organizations
The Student Veterans Organization (SVO), Veteran Employee Affinity Group, Peer Advisors for Veteran Education (PAVE) program and the Transitioning Veterans to Campus Life pre-orientation program all provide resources to foster and promote a sense of community on campus and throughout the region.
Ceremonies and Honors
We commemorate and honor the veteran and military-connected community at Syracuse University with events like the Chancellor’s Review of the Army and Air Force ROTC cadets, the Stars & Stripes Tailgate and Veterans Day ceremonies
