Veteran Legacy Fund

Syracuse University has a long tradition of service to our nation’s veterans and military service members, dating back to 1917, when the student body first voted to create an officer training program on our campus. US FLAG.vertical(GRAY)Since that time, Syracuse University alumni have proudly served at home and around the globe in every major conflict since World War I. Further, beginning in 1919, we began to welcome the first wave of returning war veterans to campus as student-veterans. Our doors have been open to the nation’s veterans ever since!

Chancellor Kent Syverud has made a commitment to both honor our historical legacy of support to veterans and military-connected students, and to add a new chapter to the Syracuse University story of service to those who have worn the cloth of the nation. Today, we’re hard at work, focused on welcoming the newest generation of veterans and military-connected students to our campus community.

Today’s veterans and military-connected students come to Syracuse University for the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of those generations of Orange Veterans who have called SU home. As we rekindle the legacy of Syracuse University’s commitment to serve those who have served the nation in uniform, we aspire to make Syracuse University “THE BEST PLACE” in the nation for veterans and military-connected students.

With this focus in mind, we are pleased to announce the creation of the Syracuse University Military-Veteran Legacy Fund, a new initiative that will support our student veterans and military-connected students in the following ways:

  • Programs and Resources for Student Veterans:

Your support will assist in enriching the career preparation of veteran and military students; provide student veterans and military families with emergency financial support during their transition to campus; offer programming and support to help students develop skills to improve and maintain wellness; and create undergraduate research experiences for student veterans.

  • Programs and Resources for Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Students:

Your contribution will help to close the financial burden not addressed by ROTC scholarship support, and ensure our cadets never have a financial burden while preparing to serve our nation in uniform.

  • Programs and Resources for Veteran-Employees/Families at Syracuse University:

Be a part of the development of a Veteran Employee Affinity Group that will offer programming and events of interest to veterans who are employees of Syracuse University; provide training and mentorship to the veteran employee/student community; and showcase, support and recognize veterans on campus through a Veteran Employee Recognition Program.

Please help us continue our tradition of service to veterans and military students, by making a gift to the Syracuse University Veteran Legacy Fund.
