Syracuse University Libraries’ new digital exhibition, “Our Doors Opened Wide: Syracuse University and the GI Bill, 1945-1950,” is available beginning November 1, 2023. Curated by University Archivist Meg Mason, the original physical exhibition was on view at the Special Collections Research Center galleries in 2016. The exhibition explores the dramatic impact of the GI Bill and the subsequent influx of veterans on the University campus following World War II. This online exhibition was a collaborative effort between the Libraries’ Department of Digital Stewardship and the Special Collections Research Center.

Syracuse University football takes on Pittsburgh on Saturday, November 11th, at 3:30 pm at Yankee Stadium. Thanks to the support from The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs and the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families, these winners will both be joining the loud house in NYC to support the football team playing in Yankee Stadium!

Meet Tillman Scholar Luis “Lu” Weierbach L’24
Luis “Lu” Weierbach is a Captain in the U.S. Army who is currently enrolled at Syracuse University’s College of Law. After completing his education he will return to the Army as an officer in the Judge Advocate General Corps. Weierbach is Syracuse University’s 2023 Tillman Scholar, and in this video expresses his support for the foundation as well as encourages other student veterans at Syracuse University to apply for the prestigious scholarship.
Hometown Hero: Levi Reynolds
United States Army Captain Levi Reynolds was born in Kansas City, Missouri. Levi’s thirteen years of Army service began in 2010 when he enlisted in the Missouri Army National Guard as a Field Artillery Crewmember. By 2015, he commissioned into the Active Duty Army as a Finance and Comptroller Officer.

Stars and Stripes Tailgate and Military Appreciation Game Photo Story
When the Army football team from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point arrived on campus to take on the Syracuse University football team, they were met by a campus community celebrating Syracuse’s rich military-connected history. The day started with the 9th Annual Stars & Stripes Tailgate, a free event hosted by the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs for veterans and military families in the local community.

Hometown Hero – Denise Moore, G’21
U.S. Army First Sergeant (Retired) Denise L. Moore is the daughter of the late Marvin Ellis, and Vicky Dixon Pasley of Jesup, Georgia. She entered the United States Army in October 1992 and attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC. Denise attended Advanced Individual Training at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana where she was awarded the Military Occupational Specialty, 73D, Accounting Specialist. On July 31, 2013, Denise retired after 20 years of active-duty Army service from Joint Base Lewis-McChord as a Senior Financial Advisor in the 593rd Sustainment Brigade.
