Ryan Marquette: Making His Case

From organizations to internships, Ryan Marquette L’22 has had the chance to explore different areas of law while pursuing a juris doctor at Syracuse University’s College of Law and a master of public administration through the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs—a three-year joint program that combines law and policy. In addition to his rigorous schoolwork, Marquette, a U.S. Army veteran and active member of the Army National Guard, also had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience last summer at the Betty and Michael D. Wohl Veterans Legal Clinic, the Children’s Rights & Family Law Clinic and the Criminal Defense Clinic, gaining exposure to three areas of law in which he previously had little experience.

What is The Warrior Scholar Project?

Ronald Novack (Colonel, U.S. Army, Ret.) Executive Director of Veteran and Military Affairs at Syracuse University spoke with Dave Allen at WSYR this morning to discuss the Warrior Scholar Project! The Warrior-Scholar Project (WSP) hosts intensive, one and two-week college-preparatory academic boot camps for enlisted veterans and transitioning service members. Boot camps are offered in three disciplines: Humanities, STEM, and Business & Entrepreneurship.

Summer Bootcamp Program ‘Warrior Scholar Project’ Starts Next Week for Transitioning Veterans

The Warrior Scholar Project provides a way forward academically for military veterans following their transition out of service. WSP is a series of intensive, weeklong college preparatory academic boot camps. In addition to training military personnel in the skills required for college, they are taught that they can be a valuable addition to the classroom. Writing tutors, sessions on analytical reading and an opportunity to work with other student-veterans prepare them to be successful within a campus environment.

Artemio “Art” Bayna is currently a senior at the Syracuse University College of Professional Studies and is working toward his degree in professional studies with a major in creative leadership. Now an aspiring author, Bayna first enlisted in the US Army in 1997. Four years later, the events on 9/11 changed the course of his life forever.
