What ‘Thank You’ Means to an Active-Duty Military Member

Each one reflects upon their time in the service, why they came to SU, and what hearing ‘thank you’ means to them. Sometimes it is an instant connection with the person who said it, and other time’s it gives encouragement and meaning to their sacrifices. 

Veterans Week 2018

On November 9th, retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Peggy Combs 85′, the highest ranking female military officer to graduate from Syracuse University, gave the ceremony keynote for SU’s Veterans Day Services. In 1085 she was commissioned into the U.S. Army in Hendricks Chapel and her wish was to retire in the same location.

Amanda Rylee is a U.S. Army active-duty member that is currently attending Syracuse University for entrepreneurship in Whitman. After she graduates, she plans to continue her active duty.

Construction Manager Announcement

Chase Construction has been selected to lead the Construction Management efforts for the National Veterans Resource Center at Syracuse University. 

Hometown Hero: Katie Piston

Katie Piston is the spouse of Navy Veteran Daniel Piston, but her connections to the military began long before she met her husband. She grew up outside of Chicago, IL and is the proud granddaughter of a WWII Veteran.

Hometown Hero: Daniel Pesci

Syracuse University Air Force ROTC Cadet Daniel Pesci is the Squadron Commander in the 535th Cadet Wing at Syracuse University.  He was first introduced to the possibility of commissioning in the Armed Forces in 4th grade on a family vacation to Colorado, where he visited the United States Air Force Academy.

Forrest Vosler

TSgt Forrest Vosler served in the US Army Air Force during World War II and is a recipient of the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Nicholas Georgiade

Nicholas Georgiade was a boxer in high school in New York City, but he dropped out to join the US Army. He served in the Korean War, during which he won the Army European heavyweight title

Gordon D. Hoople

Major Gordon D. Hoople graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University in 1915, and summa cum laude from its College of Medicine in 1919.
