Jurgen Baeza (U.S. Navy)

Jurgen Baeza Bernal serves as the Secretary of Syracuse University’s Student Veterans Organization while pursuing a degree in Computer Science, with an expected graduation in May 2026. A U.S. Navy veteran with six years of service, Jurgen previously served as an Aviation Structural Mechanic (AME), specializing in support systems and ensuring mission-ready aircraft operations. During his military career, he was recognized with the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his performance and dedication.

For Jurgen, SVO represents continuity of service beyond the uniform. He shares, “The SVO is important to me because it’s a way to support our student veterans after they’ve left the military. Many of them don’t have a support system, and that’s exactly what we’re here to offer at the SVO.” Through his role as Secretary, he helps maintain organization, communication, and structure within the executive board to better serve the broader veteran community. Outside of academics and leadership, Jurgen enjoys reading, staying active in his community, and watching movies. After graduation, he plans to pursue policy roles in Washington, D.C., with the long-term goal of one day working in Congress.
